Biography
Dr. Amnon Kohen is a Professor of Chemistry and of Molecular and Cellular Biology. Amnon received his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry in 1989 from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Doctor of Sciences (D.Sc.) degree in 1994 from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. After that he was a postdoctorial fellow with Prof. Judith Klinman at the University of California at Berkeley. In 1999, he moved to the University of Iowa and his main interest is mechanistic enzymology and bioorganic chemistry. His research focuses on the relationship between enzyme structure, dynamics, and catalysis, as well as the use of isotope effects in studying enzymes. His research group also pursues medical and technological applications of biological catalysts, and since 2013 he is the Director of the Iowa Graduate Program in Biotechnology.
